Kipe privacy policy
Last updated November 3, 2026
Kipe is a recipe app for saving, organizing and cooking recipes. This page explains what Kipe keeps about you, why, who else handles it, and how to delete it. Kipe has no ads, no analytics or tracking, and never sells your information.
What Kipe keeps
- Your account basics. When you sign in with Google, Kipe gets your name, email address and an account ID from Google. When you sign in with Facebook, Kipe gets your name, email address (if your Facebook account has one), profile picture and an account ID from Facebook, and nothing else from your Facebook profile. The picture is only shown to you, on Kipe's Settings button. When you sign in with an email and password instead, Kipe keeps your email address, the name you enter (if any) and an account ID; Google Firebase checks your password and keeps it only in scrambled (hashed) form; Kipe itself doesn't save it. This lets your recipes sync to every device where you sign in.
- What you save in Kipe. Your recipes, the photos you take or pick for them, your ratings, favorites and notes, your shopping list, your meal plan and your settings.
- Shared collections. If you create or join a shared collection, the people in it see your name, your profile picture and the recipes you add to it.
- Feedback. If you use Settings → Send feedback, Kipe keeps your message with your name, email, the app version and your type of device, so we can reply and fix problems. Feedback notes are kept until we delete them; deleting your account doesn't remove past feedback, but we'll delete it if you email us.
- Settings on your device. Your app settings, cooking timers and recipe-idea reminders stay on your device. Reminders and timer alerts are scheduled on the device; Kipe does not send push messages.
If you use Kipe without signing in, your recipes stay on your device only and nothing about you is sent to us.
Who else handles it
- Google Firebase stores your account and what you save in Kipe, and runs Google, Facebook and email sign-in. Data is encrypted while it travels and while it is stored.
- Google Gemini (through Firebase) reads a recipe for you when you import from a photo, a PDF, pasted text or a video caption. Kipe sends only what you chose to import, and uses the result to fill in the recipe. Gemini processes this under Google's paid terms, so it isn't used to train Google's models.
- Recipe websites and video sites. When you import from a link, your device opens that page to read the recipe, like a browser would.
- Photo search. When you use Find photo on a recipe, Kipe sends the dish's name to Openverse and Wikimedia Commons to look for free photos. Nothing else about you or your recipes is sent.
- Your phone's speech recognition, only while hands-free cooking is on. It listens for words like “next” and “back”. Kipe asks for recognition on the device itself; if your phone can't do that, its own speech service (usually Google's) may process what it hears, under that service's terms. Kipe only uses the command it hears; it doesn't record, save or send your voice anywhere.
- Web search. When you tap a web search in Kipe, it opens Google search in Kipe's own browser with the words you searched for. Kipe checks each page on your phone for a recipe so it can offer Import; it doesn't save or send us the pages you visit.
- Meta (Facebook), only if you sign in with Facebook. Facebook confirms who you are and tells Kipe your name, email and profile picture. Kipe turns off Facebook's app event tracking and advertising ID collection, and doesn't post anything to Facebook.
- Microsoft, only if you import from OneNote. You sign in with Microsoft and Kipe reads the notes you pick. The Microsoft sign-in stays on your device.
Permissions
Kipe asks for the camera and photos only so you can add a picture to a recipe or import a recipe from a photo. It asks for the microphone only for hands-free cooking, and listens only while hands-free is switched on in Cooking mode and Kipe is on screen. It asks to show notifications for cooking timers, recipe ideas and imports that run in the background, and uses exact alarms so a cooking timer goes off on time.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from Kipe: Settings → Account → Delete account. This removes your recipes, photos, shopping list, meal plan, settings, the shared collections you own, the recipes you added to other people's collections, and your sign-in. It happens right away and can't be undone. More about deleting your account.
You can also delete single recipes, or all of them, from inside the app.
Children
Kipe is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
